Our version of The Taming of the Shrew is not about beating a woman into submission.
For our Petruchio and Katherine, it's love at first sight. Unfortunately Katherine
has fought all her life for independence in the male-dominated society in which she's
been raised and isn't prepared for, nor she can even conceive of, a man who wishes to
treat her as an equal. Petruchio's task is to get her attention, so to speak; so he can
let her know how much he loves her. We like to think that this is the more "politically
correct" version that Shakespeare would have written if he had lived and written it in this
century. We've tampered a little with the sequence of a few scenes, and we've added snippets
of dialogue from other Shakespearean plays to suit our purpose, but it's still at least 99% true
Shakespeare. We are presenting a "Shrew" that is both less than, and more than, the "traditional"
version audiences might expect. We're very proud of it and we are confident that our audiences will be pleased with the results.
